The Lizard Pit (a slight return)

Sent out a hardcopy of “The Lizard Pit” to the “Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror” anthology people.  Today was the deadline, I mailed it Thursday AM to NYC so I hope I didn’t blow it off.

Funny that today I just got a glowing comment from someone that heard the podcast at Well Told Tales.  Said it was the first time he laughed out loud during a podcast. Not sure what that means in the world of literary criticism, but I took it as a good sign. And it’s always good to known that there are other high-functioning semi-deranged folks out there.

I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on that story, but interestingly it was turned down by the editor of Pseudopod, even though he said his readers liked it.  He said “The memorial garden premise works very well, and the detailed violence and gore are great too.  But the plot contains no real surprises once the woman gets in his truck, and the protagonist is unbelievably complicit and imperceptive.”

Well, duh! The dude’s a third-rate half-drunk hard-up undertaker, she’s a malevolent pre-Columbian cloud ghost with seriously bad mojo.  Besides, this is Florida. Nobody behaves rationally down here.
